John Monash Science School

A variety of problem solving techniques are demonstrated and taught to solve questions efficiently.

Thoroughly develop an understanding of fundamental mathematical skills and learn how to apply them to more complex problems.

Build your knowledge of scientific concepts and use them to solve the two different types of scientific reasoning questions.

Develop a range of skills including writing topic summaries, scientific analysis and practical reports.

While discussing your child’s goals we will advise whether this program is the right fit.

We will explain the course (module) structure and fees.

There’s no obligation — just personalised advice.

When you’re ready to proceed, we’ll guide you through a quick phone enrolment, collect your details, and lock in a suitable start date and session time.

You will be sent a confirmation of the enrolment.

Usually each student attends one lesson per week.

When students commence the module they will be introduced to our system of learning which provides 1 to 1 tution.

Enrolment is flexible and tailored to your child.

Each student is given a range of tasks during each session of the module.

The module is designed to meet the requirements of the exam for which students are preparing.

Each module is designed according to current age and includes assessments, skill development and tests.

Learning is targeted, purposeful, and supported by experienced tutors. Students are assessed for their ability to understand work, sometimes within time limits in order to improve strategy.

Tutors provide consistent feedback throughout each session.

Work that is not completed in the session can be taken for homework to consolidate learning.

Tutors check the homework, and reveiwed by provide ongoing feedback.

Learning plans can be tailored to keep students on track and engaged to get the most from their attendance.

Students can ccess further work on the Learning Portal.

Parents gain clarity from the learning plans and students performance.

An exam is completed at the end of the module. Reviews of performance are an important component.

All fees for each module are inclusive of materials and listed below.

John Monash Science School Selective Entry Exam Preparation

Brainworks JMSS program provide a complete service to prepare for the exam. The program includes modules (see below), workshops including information sessions (to undertsand the selection process and the important choices students can make in the year leading up to the exam), maths revision, science reasoning and demonstrations that assist students to develop greater depth of understanding of scientific concepts.

Year 9 entry

Applications usually open mid March and close in May. The exam is currently held in June. Following the exam it takes around 6 weeks of marking and students may then be invited to attend an interview. The interview encompasses an individual and group component.

Year 10 entry
